Fimbriae are attachment pili containing adhesins that aid in bacterial mucosal attachment. They are found in many bacteria including E. coli, Bordetella pertussis, S. aureus and S. pyogenes, and even in H. influenzae. However, fimbriae are not the primary virulence factor of H. influenzae.
