Subarachnoid hemorrhages present as a sudden, not gradual, severe headache with hyperdense regions within the basal cistern. They often coincide with nuchal rigidity and a fever and usually result from the rupture of an aneurysm located at the bifurcation of arteries within the circle of Willis.
