Gastric bypass surgery can cause small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) due to excessive bacterial proliferation in the blind-ended gastroduodenal segment. SIBO -> deficiency of most vitamins (B12, A, D, E) and iron, but increased production of folic acid and vitamin K.
