Mycobacterium TB – grows in long, serpentine cords due to presence of cord factor (surface glycoprotein on cell wall). Cord factor is primary virulence factor of MT; it prevents macrophages from being bacterial due to inhibition of phagolysosome acidification & also leads to the formation of caseating granulomas.
