A patients history of substance abuse, miosis, profound sedation & respiratory depression with rapid reversal of signs/symptoms with antidotal therapy = opioid overdose. Tx: Naloxone. Naloxone is a pure opioid receptor antagonist. It binds to opioid receptors mu, delta & kappa but has the greatest affinity for mu receptors. Moa: Naloxone competes with opioid medications, displacing them from opioid receptors.
