Omalizumab binds to the IgE antibody heavy chain & blocks the binding of IgE to the IgE receptors on mast cells. By preventing this binding, omalizumab inhibits proinflammatory substance release (including histamine & leukotrienes) by mast cells, markedly reducing airway inflammation.
