Diazepam – Long lasting benzodiazepine. Used for: GAD, short-term insomnia, anticonvulsant (status epilepticus). It is a 1st line agent along with chlordiazepoxide for tx: of seizures associated with alcohol withdrawal. Also used as a muscle relaxant (stops spasticity caused by UMN disorders such as MS, Strokes, Spinal cord trauma & tetanus).
