Splenic sequestration crisis (marked Hb decrease, rapidly enlarging spleen) developed vaso-occlusion within cord of Billroth & splenic pooling -> congestion. Auto-infarction occurs in early childhood in Sickle cell, but repeated infarct -> significant scarring, fibrosis, atrophy of the spleen in adult patient -> functional asplenia & auto-splenectomy
