Meissner corpuscles, which are responsible for conveying the sensation of light touch, are small encapsulated sensory receptors found just beneath the dermis of hairless skin, most prominently in the fingertips, soles of the feet, and lips. Meissner corpuscles are involved in the reception of light discriminatory touch, not vibratory sensation.
