Kawasaki disease»cracked lips, high fever, and conjunctivitis. KD is an acute, self-limiting disease that affects infants and children, especially those of Asian descent. Characterized by acute, necrotizing vasculitis of medium-sized vessels. Kawasaki disease manifests with high fever, congested nonpurulent conjunctivae, and changes in lips/oral mucosa (“strawberry tongue). Patients may also have a desquamating and non-vesicular rash and lymphadenitis. Coronary aneurysms are a feared complication of this disease.
