Atrial flutter is a supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). It is an increase in the rate of contraction that originate above the ventricles. β-Blockers can be used to slow the heart rate in SVT; they are a third-line treatment, after vagal maneuvers and adenosine, for acute SVT.
