Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency can cause anemia after oxidative stress and presents with Heinz bodies (ie, bite cells) on a peripheral smear. However, G6PD is x-linked recessive so it typically presents in males. Moreover, the anemia is normocytic rather than macrocytic.
