The permanent metanephric kidneys found in humans originate from the ureteric bud, an outgrowth of mesodermal cells that arises from the embryonic mesonephric ducts. Failure of the ureteric bud to properly form results in Potter sequence, in this case, caused by bilateral renal agenesis
