Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a platelet disorder due to a deficiency of ADAMTS13 (a von Willebrand factor (vWF) metalloprotease). It would typically occur in patients who have the pentad of fever, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, renal disease, and neurologic symptoms.
