Inactivation of guanylyl cyclaseleads to the inhibition of cGMP formation, resulting in vasoconstriction. Such changes would increase total peripheral resistance, but would not increase cardiac output. Gq proteins activate phospholipase C which leads to increased levels of IP3 and Ca2+ second messengers in addition to Protein Kinase C.
