Patients with selective IgA deficiency are asymptomatic, patients are at risk for the development of anaphylactic reactions following blood transfusions or administration of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). With a history of an allergic reaction to a blood transfusion, the patient likely has an underlying selective IgA deficiency.
