Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) commonly presents as unilateral painless loss in vision and is often secondary to an embolic source, such as, atherosclerosis of the carotid artery(Hypertension), cardiac vegetation, patent foramen ovale, or can result from giant cell arteritis in individuals greater than the age of 40.
