Huntington disease caused by a defect in the Huntington (HTT) gene that leads to a trinucleotide repeat expansion of the ‘CAG’ sequence. Neurodegeneration is seen in the striatum, which includes both the caudate and putamen. This leads to a loss of GABAergic neurons. Upon neurological imaging, the lateral ventricles may appear enlarged.
