Phenoxybenzamine and phentolamine are the nonselective α-adrenergic blockers used in the preoperative management of pheochromocytomas. Phenoxybenzamine is an irreversible, nonselective agent with a longer duration of action than phentolamine and is used preferentially to control blood pressure and arrhythmias.
