An otherwise healthy adolescent patient presents with vague abdominal pain, mild scleral icterus, and normal AST and ALT levels with direct (conjugated) hyperbilirubinemia. This is a autosomal recessive, benign disorder in which patients have conjugated hyperbilirubinemia due to impaired excretion of conjugated bilirubin and a grossly black liver.
