Arginase is the urea cycle enzyme that converts arginine to urea and ornithine. Deficiency can lead to hyperammonemia and increased urinary excretion of orotic acid, but both symptoms are mild; however, hyperammonemia is rare and urinary excretion of orotic acid is not significant unlike in the patients with OTC defect.
