Peroxisome PEX gene mutation results in Zellweger syndrome. Accumulation of long chain fatty acids occurs in peroxisomes. This results in hepatic dysfunction, profound hypotonia, and difficulty feeding. Levels of propionic acid and methylmalonic acid would be normal.
